CrystalStones® Product Specifications
Description:
CrystalStones® Natural Pebble Pool finishes are blends of specially selected natural pebble aggregates. CrystalStones® provides the proven durability of natural pebble finishes as an alternative to traditional pool plaster finishes. CrystalStones® variety in colorfast pigments and textures offer the customers almost limitless flexibility in poolscape design. CrystalStones® is easily installed but intended for use by professional applicators.
Benefits:
- Proven Durability
- Etch Resistant
- Colorful, Variegated Aggregates
- Traditional or Sprayed Applied
- Ease of Maintenance
Preparation:
CrystalStones® should be applied to a sound surface free of oil, dirt, algae or any other foreign substance. Previously applied paints or sealers must be removed by acid washing and/or sandblasting. Neutralize acid with baking soda or soda ash, then thoroughly rinse with water. In addition to, or in partial replacement of, the procedures mentioned above, CLI PERMAKOTE® could be used as a bonding coat. Re-finished pools must be undercut an appropriate distance around all tile, return lines, light fixtures and main drains. All weepers and plumbing leaks should be repaired at least 24 hours prior to plaster application (follow NSPI and/or NPC standards).
Mixing:
1. Using standard mixing equipment, it is important to blend each batch for the same amount of water and to mix each batch for the same amount of time. This is to ensure consistent color throughout the finish.

1. Mix CrystalStones® with approximately 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 gallons of potable water per 80-lb. bag.

3. Start the mixing procedure by adding approximately 2/3 of the total water requirements to the mixer; add CrystalStones® to the balance of water.

4. Mix the completed batch for at least 8 minutes to ensure a proper blend of all ingredients.

5. Before using any job site additives, please consult your CLI Product Service Representative at 800-333-2660.
Application:
CrystalStones® may be applied by either spray or conventional methods. Apply CrystalStones® over a lightly dampened (no standing water) surface to a uniform thickness of approximately 3/8". Substrate conditions will have a direct relationship on the thickness of application and coverage rates per bag. If application must be interrupted, finish to a natural break to prevent joints from showing. CrystalStones® should be applied in temperatures exceeding 40† F.
Aggregate Exposure:
After the cement has hardened sufficiently to prevent excessive aggregate
Exposure: loss, gentle brushing and controlled water flow are applied to remove the cement surface paste. A diluted muriatic acid solution is then applied to the surface to finally expose the pebble finish. Care should be taken to neutralize and dispose of the acid solution in an environmentally acceptable manner.
Curing:
Care should be taken to protect CrystalStones® from rapid drying conditions such as high wind, high temperature and low humidity. Such precautions may include fogging or misting the surface or placing a protective covering over the pool. Cover should not be placed directly on pool surface.
Filling Procedures:
When filling the pool it is important to do so without interruption of fill water. Fill pool as rapidly as possible. All fill hoses should have a sock or cloth on the end. Do not allow main hose length to lay on the aggregate surfaces, as it will leave a mark.
Water Chemistry:
The pool water must be carefully balanced from the initial fill and constantly maintained within recommended NSPI guidelines. Maintaining proper chemical balance from first fill is essential to maximize the life of the pool surface. Please consult your CLI Product Service Representative concerning start-up techniques and maintenance programs.
Coverage:
Each 80-lb. bag covers approximately 14-20 sq. feet at 3/8" thickness. Coverage rates may vary depending on method of application and condition of substrate.
Packaging:
CrystalStones® is packaged in 80-lb. heavy-duty poly-lined bags.
